Drawing a line in the sand between the city and the sea in Bat Yam.

Project Name

Bat Yam Southern Promenade

The southern promenade of Bat Yam straddles the sand beach in between city and sea. The promenade connects Ben-Gurion street and the hotel area with Rishon LeZion, while spanning the Riviera Beach, the Separate Beach, the Palm Beach and the coffee shops and restaurants fronting the sea.

As a constructed “line in the sand,” the promenade offers a functional path made of concrete and a wooden boardwalk for walking and running on the sand. In some of the sections the promenade is hardly present, in others it appears to hover gently above the sand.

The promenade connects the city streets to the beach entrances. On the western section the promenade levitates 50 cm above the sand, serving as a long seating bench facing the water and in the southern section, the promenade is designed as a bridge, enabling ebbs and flows under it.
