New public access on the Bat Yam waterfront ridges for observation, sitting, walking or running with an open view of the sea.
Bat Yam Beach Ridge Promenade
The cliff promenade project began as a response to the collapse of parts of the cliff between Ben-Gurion Street in Bat Yam and the beach. At the back of the collapsed promenade there were concrete flowerpots that served as connectors between the promenade and sidewalk, and were later repurposed into observation spots overlooking the sea as part of the intervention strategy on site.
The existing concrete walls were used as part of the construction to integrate new thin wood suspensions. The eastern side of Ben Gurion Street is saturated with restaurants and cafes. The creation of wooden balconies combined with bar railings and elevated seating chairs creates an extension for these businesses and allows residents to sit with a cup of coffee or a light meal to watch the horizon. To prevent further disintegration of the cliff rock, vegetation was planted at its forefront to stop rock collapse.
