Seeding of a park with the community instead of hotels at the seashore.
Sea Grove Seaside Park
The Bat Yam Seagrove, a 6 hectare waterfront park in southern Bat Yam was born out of a prosaic need to upgrade neglected sites along the coast to improve their appearance. We began by initiating a clean-up and ordering the topography and pruning of vegetation, adding paths and simple shading devices. Local schools were engaged in seasonal seeding of local flora and wild plants, becoming active park guardians.
Through foot traffic and activation the site was transformed from a trash heap into an ecologically re-constructed waterfront park. The zoning plan followed suit, and the site was formally designated as an urban asset.
Replacing the planned construction of hotels, the park offers sea views, picnic areas and the growth of seaside groves and grasses.
